Abstract:

In this study, we propose an analysis of the parliamentary and local elite recruitment in Cape Verde, from the independence to the present day, and also having in mind the attention given to the political changes occurred in the archipelago, namely the regime change from one-party to multi-party.

From 1975 to 1991, the PAIGC, later known as PAICV was the single ruling party. In 1991, thanks to the change to a multi-party system, MPD won the elections and since 2001 the PAICV has taken over power.

Having already made a study about the ministerial recruitment in the archipelago, well will be interested as well in doing a comparative study about the criteria concerning the recruitment of all these political elites from the independence to the present day.
